Four weeks in the NT and we only had about three s

Four weeks in the NT and we only had about three sunrises worth getting up for. This one was on our first morning along the Larapinta Trail (we only did a short section, not the whole trail).

The tents are not actually ours; we weren't smart enough to camp strategically like these guys, and I had to race up a hill to get some sunrise shots.

In lockdown but terribly distracted by being in an Olympics-friendly timezone so still not finding much time to process my few hundred bird shots from our recent Central Australia trip. 😁

1. Spinifex pigeons parading nicely in front of me

Favourite spots in Australia #2: Mount Moffatt 🇦🇺

This is “The Chimneys" sandstone formation at Mount Moffatt, another section of Carnarvon National Park in Central Queensland.

Like Carnarvon Gorge, we've been here multiple times and I'd come back in a heartbeat if we were even in the vague area.

And this is a really nice circuit #hike that takes you past The Chimneys, The Tombs (Aboriginal burial area + stunning rock art), and the Looking Glas, another sandstone formation.⁣

"Travelling around Australia!" 🇦🇺 This has got to be one of our favourite topics in my English language classroom. I love it, my students love it, even my volunteer tutor loves it! 🇦🇺 And since I'm (virtually) travelling around Australia with my students this week, I thought I'd share some of my favourite Aussie spots. 🇦🇺 Today: Carnarvon Gorge, part of Carnarvon National Park, in Queensland. Why? Because ... fantastic hiking trails, brilliant white sandstone cliffs, teeming birdlife, incredible Aboriginal rock art, and endemic Carnarvon fan palms. Simply stunning.⁣

As we’re planning our annual winter trip, I keep travelling down memory lane... ✨ This was taken about four years ago when my mum came for a visit and we spent three weeks in the Northern Territory. ✨ All I can really say is that the Outback is ridiculously stunning (in winter). ✨ And that mum loved it. ☺️

I'm doing a video (listening) activity about 'Bird

I'm doing a video (listening) activity about 'Birdsville's only cop' with my class tomorrow and preparing for it reminded me of our Queensland Outback trip a couple of years ago.✨ We didn't get as far as Birdsville but Currawinya National Park isn't exactly around the corner either and ticks all the outback boxes (vast distances, sparse vegetation, peaceful, plenty of wildlife, a few hikes, a rich history, starry nights, ...). ✨ The ancestral home of the Barnba People, Currawinya was used as pastoral land for decades, and it's evident at every corner. I can't say I've ever seen a national park so full of (fascinating) pastoral relics as Currawinya is (the giant woolshed is incredible!). And, of course, the red soil is mesmerising (and has a habit of getting into everything!)⁣

Lamington's ancient forests always make me feel like I'm in Jurassic Park and a dinosaur is just about to step out and maybe eat me. I am so weird! 😂😆 (But dinosaurs aside, the hiking trails here are among the best in Queensland!)⁣
