Meet Kati (& the husband)

Hello, welcome!

We live on the sunny Sunshine Coast, and love getting out there and explore the amazing country that is Australia (and beyond when we can). We love having a home to come back to after trips, and can't (yet) quite imagine living on the road forever. We're not big fans of having too many gadgets, preferring to travel and live life simply.

Golden hour at Bladensburg National Park, just outside Winton.

We camped at Bladensburg for four nights a few years ago. Bladensburg was busier than I expected (but in hindsight not surprising given how close it is to Winton) but I still wrote that the camping was "blissful, calm and quiet" in my travel diary. I especially loved the early mornings along Surprise Creek, my favourite time of the day to go for a walk.

Sunrise clouds at Undara Volcanic National Park a few months ago.

The sunrise was a bit of a fizzler, which was a relief in a way since I just couldn't find a good spot for taking sunrise shots at Atkinson's Lookout. 😆 The Rosella Plains Track, along which you can find Atkinson's Lookout, is a great hike to do at Undara. It's a 12km circuit and quite exposed so go early.

Along the Savannah Way...

I thought it might be a bit boring driving around the Gulf Savannah but the countryside is far hillier and so lush that I wasn't bored at all. Good thing too because, you know, there isn't much else to see. 😁

Fun fact (in case you didn't know): the Savannah Way is actually about 3,700 km long, stretching from Cairns on the East Coast to Broome on the West Coast. A crazy long way. We only did a very, very small section of it. 🚙

The lava tube system at Undara Volcanic National P $The lava tube system at Undara Volcanic National Park is Australia's largest such system (over 160km of tubes, tunnels, caves and craters). Most of it is inaccessible but you can join a guided tour to see a small fraction of the lava remnants. We joined the Wind Tunnel tour since it's somewhat more "adventurous" and takes you through a completely dark tunnel, definitely the funnest part of the tour. 😎 #undaravolcanicnationalpark #undara #gulfsavannah #tropicalqueensland #explorequeensland #lavatube #QLDParks$

I'm a bit behind with my photos but this June we headed up to the Gulf Savannah in northern Queensland. It's hot here, even in winter! 🥵 First stop: Undara Volcanic National Park.

Most people visit Undara Volcanic National Park for its well-known lava tubes (well, we did too) but I actually enjoyed the Rosella Plains hike (12km) far more. After an early morning start, we got back around 10am and I was just about done since it was almost 30 degrees by then. 😎

A quick poking my head into the historic pioneer hut was a nice way to finish the hike.

On Day 3 of the Kangaroo Island Wilderness Trail y

On Day 3 of the Kangaroo Island Wilderness Trail you can take the quick side trip to Remarkable Rocks, arguably one of Kangaroo Island's most famous sights. By the time you get here, you're already halfway through Day 3.

We left the campground just before sunrise and had the rocks all to ourselves for almost an hour, fantastic! I was chuffed to be able to crawl around and explore without people walking into my shots all the time! 😁
